The design should account for glare, fixture placement, and the direction people walk. Those details help you decide whether lighting belongs on the steps, beside them, or along the route leading to them.

Landscape lighting installation for safer movement in City of Sammamish

Landscape lighting installation gives a property a planned nighttime layout. This page focuses on step illumination, walkway lighting, entry lighting, and shadow reduction, so the buyer can decide which areas need attention first.

The job suits homeowners planning a new garden, patio, walkway, or outdoor living area. It also fits properties where steps or paths feel hard to read after dark. Lighting won't correct a damaged stair, unstable walkway, or drainage problem, so those conditions need separate work.

Our design-to-build process starts with soil, slope, and drainage review. We then consider materials, fixture placement, architectural lines, and how the light will look from the house and walking routes.

  • Mark steps, walkways, entries, and areas where shadows block clear footing.
  • Check how planting, walls, patios, and water features affect fixture placement.
  • Decide whether lighting belongs in a new outdoor plan or an existing property.
  • Request a quote that reflects the actual site and selected scope.

Service Overview

Landscape lighting installation is an outdoor electrical lighting service that adds planned light to paths, steps, entries, planting areas, and living spaces.

  • It differs from landscape design because it focuses on light placement, visibility, glare, and nighttime movement within a larger property plan.
  • Our landscape lighting installation work covers homes and outdoor projects in City of Sammamish.

How to judge the right lighting scope

Start with the walking route

The first decision is where people walk after dark. Step and path placement should guide the plan, while planting and walls help shape the light. This service is not the right job for a broken stair, unstable paving, or a drainage failure.

Connect lighting to the property plan

Landscape architect-led design helps place lighting within the full outdoor layout. Patios, retaining walls, water features, and planting beds each affect the view and the available route.

Choose a clear project scope

Some properties need a focused entry and path plan. Others need lighting coordinated with a larger garden, walkway, or outdoor living project.

The scope this service is meant to handle

A homeowner planning a walkway and patio may find that the route feels clear by day but loses definition after dark. We would review the steps, entry, planting edges, and shadowed areas before setting the lighting scope. The same review can show whether the project needs lighting work, masonry repair, or both.

Process

Steps for planning and building outdoor lighting

1

Review the walking routes

We check steps, walkways, entries, patios, planting edges, and places where nighttime visibility matters.

2

Map light and shadow

We study the property's architecture, walls, planting, and outdoor structures to see where light will help or create glare.

3

Set the lighting scope

We explain which areas belong in the lighting work and which conditions need separate landscape or hardscape repairs.

4

Coordinate materials and construction

We connect the lighting plan with selected materials, planting plans, walkways, water features, and other outdoor improvements.

5

Explain the quote

We review the proposed work so you can understand the scope before requesting a quote.

What better outdoor lighting changes after dark

Clearer light on steps helps you read changes in level before placing your foot.

Walkway lighting gives guests a more visible route from an entry to outdoor living areas.

Shadow reduction helps reveal edges near planting beds, walls, and paths.

A coordinated lighting plan keeps fixtures connected to the property's design instead of treating them as isolated add-ons.

Regular maintenance helps keep lenses, fixtures, planting, and sight lines working together over time.

We recently had Adam help us with two big yard projects. For our primary home we had a goal of making our property lower maintenance so Adam designed a beautiful plan to bring in character with large rocks and appropriate ground cover and plants to replace all of the grass that we took out in the front yard and he and his team replaced our backyard grass with beautiful artificial turf that looks like perfectly cut grass. We are thrilled with the results and can’t say enough about how great Adam was to work with. He was very organized, had great communication and check ins and did exactly what he said he would do, and his team of workers were so respectful of property and easy to work with. After such a great experience we had him also help re design and improve our Suncadia yard to make it fit in more with the mountain landscape. All Projects were finished ahead of deadlines for some key entertaining events we had planned!

Questions about planning outdoor lighting

How does step illumination improve outdoor safety?

Step illumination improves outdoor safety by making tread edges and level changes easier to see. The plan also considers the approach path, nearby walls, and planting that may create shadows. Good placement supports movement without putting glare in the eyes. We review those details before setting the lighting scope.

What changes the quote for lighting a walkway and entry?

The walking route, number of lighting areas, site access, and related landscape work change the quote. A short entry path may need a different scope from a route that crosses steps, patios, and planting beds. We review the property first, then provide upfront pricing for the work discussed.

Which household details should I prepare before the lighting review?

Photos of the steps, walkway, entry, and outdoor living areas give the review a useful starting point. Note where you walk after dark and where shadows make footing hard to read. Plans for patios, planting, walls, or water features also matter because they can change fixture placement.

When should lighting be planned with a patio or walkway?

Lighting should be planned with a patio or walkway when the route, steps, or entry will be built or changed. Early planning helps coordinate fixtures with paving, walls, planting beds, and drainage. Adding lighting after construction can limit placement choices, so the design-to-build discussion should include it from the start.

Why do some steps still look dark after lights are added?

Steps can stay dark when nearby walls, planting, or fixtures create shadows or glare. Placement matters as much as brightness because light must reach the tread edge and the approach. We review the route and surrounding features, then decide whether the issue needs a lighting change or a separate stair repair.
